COMPENDIUM
Ongoing series of abstract works that I started in 2021.
I've painted one per year since then. In Literature a compendium is a concise and comprehensive collection of writings on a specific subject.
These visual compendiums similarly serve as collections of visual solutions and are more endless collections of smaller works than one work.
They are painted intuitively on a grid and with only 2 or 3 colors + black and white.
The shapes and spaces are extracted via freely meditating on the canvas within these strict limits. The idea is to reduce painting to it's fundamental basics, form and color.
Inspired by jazz, they end up producing visual cues and keys for other works. In a way they also become visual manifestos of the year they were painted
